The Friends of Walnut Community School has had a couple of meetings now and has begun to develop a plan for much-needed facilities improvements at the school. The approach of the Friends group is simple: to combine the PTO, Alumni Assn and concerned citizens into one group with the goal of keeping a quality K-12 school in Walnut.
We met last night at the school and did a walk-through of the public areas (lobbies, etc). We've already made some improvements to the front and to the trophy cases. But after the walk-through, it is clear that we have our work cut out for us. There are many cosmetic facilities improvements to make. We hope you are able to join our group and contribute to the effort, and our goal is 100 to 150 active members. It will take that many in order to reach our goals!
Our initial plans involve cleaning, painting, putting up banners, signs and murals, creating displays, replacing mats, and adding a sense of pride back to the facility. We may even get into some minor remodeling, or equipment replacement. To learn more about Friends or to join, go to http://walnutcs.walnut.iowapages.org. To contact us, email friendsofwcs@yahoo.com.
Thank you.
